Project 365: Day 115 - Funny Story

More snow in this record setting month of January. Yesterday I went to Central Park only to see the entire park covered in 19" of snow and in some parts of it more! One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Sooo...I see this squirrel running around in the snow and I try to take a picture of it and it immediately jumps onto a tree and starts climbing to the very top, about as far away from me as he can get vertically. So I just count it as a missed opportunity (you must to be quick when trying to photograph wildlife) and head on my way. About 15 seconds later I hear a thump to the right of me, I look over and guess who it is? My little squirrel buddy! Apparently it had some trouble with the snow on the branches, slipped and fell all the way down into a big pile of snow to the right of me...Hahaha! ( I can laugh because the squirrel was not hurt). Imagine if he would have hit me over the head?!?! Either way I thought funny of it and took the opportunity to photograph it while he was peaking out of the snow. Hope you enjoy!!

Project 365: Day 102 - The calm before the next winter storm

This evening I stopped by the Brooklyn bridge park and figured I'd get a few long exposure night shots before the snow starts falling from the sky. While I was shooting some flurries started but it didn't actually start snowing till I got home. The weather channel said we are expecting 8-14". Not the 20" we got a couple of weeks back but still a lot!

This shot is so peaceful and it's business as usual in New York city, as you can see some traffic on the FDR beneath the bridge.

Hope you have a great night and that you have the chance to enjoy the snow tomorrow. Sledding tomorrow! :-)

Project 365: Day 101 - Peek-A-Boo!

I'm always speaking about the amazing things you will see if you just slow down a bit. This photograph is another example of what you see if you do just that...slow down.

Are you ready for some more snow?? Another snow storm is on it's way so bring out the sleds because it's time to have some more fun ;-)

Project 365: Day 100 - Snowed In

“ You don’t take a photograph, you make it. - Ansel Adams

This quote, from one of the great photographers in history, is so very true. I used to dream of having better equipment to work with and of course I would then take better pictures, right? True to an extent, but not entirely. Obviously the over all quality of the your images should be much better with a $2000 D-SLR camera as opposed to a $99 point & shoot camera. But there is a process to go about & things to consider such as composition, camera settings, white balance, lighting and the many other components that go into taking a good photograph. Then you have variables that you cannot control (Sunlight, Weather & etc) but you must adjust to.

So you can see how Ansel Adams would suggest that you don't just "take" a photo, you "make" it.

So go ahead and make some good photographs! I encourage you to google Ansel Adams and check out some of his work, it's amazing!

Project 365: Day 99

I know I've probably said it a million times but I can't help it. I love living in NY!! You either love or hate the place and I just happened to be in the love crowd. Living here is a photographers dream (an architect's paradise as well) because all you have to do is pull your car over, shoot away and you can capture a Queensboro Bridge shot like this. Especially for myself since I also do landscape /cityscape photography. Sometimes I get that itch to take a photograph while being out on the road and I take a look around, stop on a dime and shoot away. Eventually I want to capture every bridge in the New York City area. Right now I believe I've photographed the Brooklyn Bridge, George Washington Bridge and now the Queensboro Bridge, so I have a lot of work to do!

As a photographer I'm constantly capturing something new and what better way to share my journey. I'm going to continue my Project 365 on this blog while also adding some of my personal work as well. I hope you are encouraged in some way, enjoy my work and feel free to subscribe to my blog so you can be notified when my blog is updated.
